High Blood Pressure Is Manageable — With the Right Care

Hypertension affects nearly half of American adults and is a leading driver of heart attack, stroke, kidney disease, and vision loss. Most people with high blood pressure have no symptoms — which is why consistent monitoring and management by a physician who knows your full medical picture is so important. Dr. Olaleye provides ongoing hypertension management that goes beyond prescribing a pill: evaluating contributing factors, monitoring for end-organ effects, and adjusting your treatment plan as your health changes.

Why It Matters

Uncontrolled blood pressure is silent — until it is not. Stroke, heart attack, kidney failure, and vision loss are the consequences of years of unmanaged hypertension. Consistent, physician-supervised management is the most effective way to prevent them.

PHCM evaluates and manages many common adult medical conditions. Depending on the complexity of the condition, patients may also be referred to an appropriate specialist for consultation or co-management.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

According to current guidelines, a blood pressure of 130/80 mmHg or higher is classified as Stage 1 hypertension. A reading of 140/90 mmHg or higher is Stage 2. Readings above 180/120 mmHg may indicate a hypertensive crisis requiring immediate medical attention. Dr. Olaleye will interpret your readings in the context of your full health picture.

In some cases, lifestyle changes — including dietary sodium reduction, regular exercise, weight loss, limiting alcohol, and stress management — can meaningfully lower blood pressure. Dr. Olaleye evaluates each patient individually and may recommend lifestyle modification alone or in combination with medication depending on your readings and overall cardiovascular risk.

Adults with normal blood pressure should have it checked at least once every two years. If you have been diagnosed with hypertension or are at elevated risk, more frequent monitoring is recommended. Dr. Olaleye will establish a monitoring schedule as part of your care plan.

Blood pressure naturally fluctuates based on activity, stress, caffeine intake, time of day, and other factors. This is normal. White coat hypertension — elevated readings in a clinical setting due to anxiety — is also common. Dr. Olaleye may recommend home blood pressure monitoring to get a more accurate picture of your typical readings.

Uncontrolled high blood pressure significantly increases the risk of heart attack, stroke, heart failure, kidney disease, and vision loss. It is often called the 'silent killer' because it typically causes no symptoms until serious damage has occurred. Early detection and consistent management are critical.
